Provocare
IT Park Development wanted a spectacular interior staircase as the centrepiece of the new office building lobby, connecting ground floor to first floor. The staircase needed an ultra-modern design with apparently floating treads and had to comply with safety regulations for high-traffic public buildings.

Solutie
We designed a staircase with lateral stringers cut from 20mm CNC-cut steel plate, with an undulating profile creating an impression of movement. The treads of 3x10mm laminated safety glass are secured with stainless steel bolts concealed within the stringer thickness. The structural system was validated through finite element analysis in ANSYS.

The staircase became the iconic element of the building, extensively photographed and shared on social media. The building achieved BREEAM Excellent certification, with the staircase contributing to the design innovation category score. The client subsequently commissioned stylistically coordinated railings for the upper floors.
The IT Park building lobby in Cluj-Napoca was conceived as an open, bright and dynamic space, with the interior staircase serving as the centrepiece defining the entire area. The design concept, developed together with the Dico si Tiganas architecture firm, combines organic forms with engineering precision.
The lateral stringers are fabricated from 20mm S355 steel plate, CNC-cut in a continuous undulating profile with a total length of 14 metres per stringer. The inner surface was ground to a mirror finish, while the outer surface received a satin finish, creating a subtle contrast in textures.
The 22 treads are made from laminated safety glass (3 layers of 10mm with PVB interlayer), mounted on stainless steel brackets concealed within the stringer thickness. Each tread weighs 45kg and supports a load of 500kg/sqm in accordance with EN 1991-1-1 for public spaces. The 12mm safety glass balustrade is secured with AISI 316L stainless steel clamps.
LED lighting integrated beneath the treads and along the stringers creates a floating effect in evening hours. The entire staircase weighs 4.2 tonnes and was installed in 4 days by a specialist team, with crane support through an opening provided in the floor slab.
