Four-Level Exterior Emergency Staircase

We designed and installed an external fire escape staircase for a 4-storey office building in Ploiesti, in accordance with the P118/1999 fire safety regulation requirements. The staircase ensures the rapid evacuation of up to 200 people in an emergency.

The load-bearing structure consists of HEA 200 columns and IPE 200 beams, with UNP 160 stringers and 3mm expanded metal treads (XS 43). The landings at each level measure 1.5x2 metres and are fabricated from 5mm checker plate. The safety railing stands 1.1 metres high with balusters at 120mm spacing and a continuous 42.4mm tube handrail.

The isolated reinforced concrete foundation, class C25/30, was dimensioned to withstand seismic loads in accordance with P100-1. The entire structure was hot-dip galvanised by immersion and additionally painted with exterior paint in RAL 3000 (red), following the colour code for evacuation routes. Access from each level is through EI 90 fire-rated doors.
